Introduction
This is Levelheaded Talk, an exploration on clarity, peace and purpose. And the steps to meet the new you with Dr. Andrea Vitz.

0:24 Jon
Welcome to Levelheaded Talk and day three of our Five-Day Declutter challenge. What day three looks like for us, Dr. V.

0:33 Andrea
Okay, so today, we are going to recognize where we might be avoiding a certain task in our home, or allowing the weight of undone things keep building up. And so I'm just going to choose one for everybody today, because it tends to be the most common, but if this isn't you then pick something else, you'll know which one it is, right? Today, I want everybody to do all of their laundry, all of it. And I know that seems a little silly. But there's something really powerful about collecting every single piece of clothing that you've worn, all your towels, your bedding, and just cleaning them all, addressing them, caring for them, taking them out, you know, after they dry and folding them neatly and placing them where they belong. There's something so empowering about that. And here's the kicker, if you feel a little sleepy toward the end of this, don't phone it in, complete the job. Complete the job. And so again, if you're already on top of this, you're like, I don't have any laundry, Andrea, well, pick something out, pick your pantry, or some cabinets in your kitchen or your refrigerator is a really good one. And really go through and take a time to address is there anything expired? Is there anything that I shouldn't even have in this refrigerator, that doesn't match, who I choose to be and what I choose to be in my body. So bringing a little bit of intention into the cleanup, because if we're doing our laundry, we're going to be intentional, right? We don't want to mess up our clothes. So we're going to be intentional there. So if you're cleaning out something different than your laundry, really pay attention to that. Pay attention to the intention of why you're doing it. It's not just an assignment. It's something that I want you to feel in your system, that you're taking care, you're taking responsibility, and you're doing something that's going to unblock energy in your life, it's going to create space in your life. And it's going to create an organization. Here's the thing, when we take action that looks and feels like organization, it's no different than when we do emotional sobriety training, and we take action, and organize all of our troubles, and then clean them up. You have so much more peace when things are organized. You know, when you walk into your home, when it's clean, versus when it's not, you may not have a really obvious reaction to it. You may not even notice it all the time. But you'll notice when you've had a disorganized home, or a maybe a little bit more dirty home and you walk into it when it's clean. Am I right? When is it all shined up? Yeah, and everything's in its place. There's this flow. It's almost like a window open. It's like a fresh breeze is flowing through your home. And it's just because you've organized your environment because you've moved that energy. You are the wind in that so I'm super excited for this. Every single piece of laundry that you have, get it clean folded, put it away, change your bedsheets, trust me, you will not regret today.

3:58 Jon
That's a really good one. So that's a really good one because it's always nice to climb into bed with fresh smelling sheets. (Yes) Ohh that's a good one. I'm a laundry guy. I do the laundry, my house and I mean I you know it's a neurosis. I have a folding board. So all my shirts are folded uniformly. And I hang my clothes in my closet by color. So (I'm clapping) I have today off. So instead of this task though, here's my, Believe me I have other things that I will address but here's a suggestion for those who are also laundry people who would otherwise have the day off. Get back to your car and just get a damp cloth and wipe it down. Maybe vacuum it (yeah, go deeper) So you said hey, don't don't do a deep cleaning just declutter yesterday. So if you don't have laundry to do today, then Go back to your car and go ahead and do that deeper cleaning. And maybe spray some air fresh. Make it smell good in your car.

5:12 Andrea
Some of your cologne? Oh, that's such a great idea. Yeah, I love that you've a folding board. I love that you are organized by color. I don't personally have either of those tendencies. But I think that's something I really admire. And it just shows such a different level of care and intention. And I just take it, Johnny, I think that's fantastic. And it really matches you. And here's the thing, if we want to really have diligence over our mental and emotional health, and we would want to live a pretty uniform life, right?

5:44 Jon
Yeah, now that you mentioned it, I mean, in this challenge, what I'm thinking is, laundry is the one thing I do, right. I'm pretty good about the dishes too. So I think what I'm really going to do is just attach my sense of organization that I demanded my closet for my laundry to (a) the rest of my closet that has nothing to do with my clothes, and then (b) to the other facets of my life, where I can apply that same level of care and have not been doing so. And and again, everybody, we're taking good notes on the impact of decluttering in our lives.

6:27 Andrea
Yes. And here's what's cool about this, too, is when you look at what you're avoiding, when you look at what you're allowing to remain undone. Okay, you're looking at your next weakest link. You know, there's, there's often jokes and families where they'll say, Well, I don't take out the trash, because I just I just wait for my wife to do it. I know she'll do it. Or I don't ever clean the toilet because I know that I know, my husband will do it. Like there's these unspoken agreements we have with other people in our lives. But we also have unspoken agreements with ourselves. And what I'm asking is that “I'll do it later” to “I'm just going to do it now”. Because when we don't do it, now it weighs on us. It truly does. Any assignment that you're procrastinating is just weighing on you even if you don't think about it 100% of the time, it's always there. So don't avoid, don't allow the weight of undone tasks. weigh you down and let's get cleaning.
