EPISODE TRANSCRIPT

This is the Ted O'Neill program. There's so much information in science and philosophy, physical training, performance optimization, nutrition, human experience with Ted O'Neill and Jon Leon Guerrero.

0:23 Jon
How would I define absolute strength when it comes to success in my business? Or how would I define absolute strength when it comes to you know achievement in whatever it is.

0:38 Ted
it's going to a place you haven't previously been able to successfully navigate toward a greater outcome. We're faced with these access points if we're training properly multiple times per day where we have to make a choice. Now, we only even know we have a choice once we've received not just the physical training, but the greater understanding of what mechanics are in place to currently keep us in that sleepwalking mode that you're referring to. (Yeah) That place of being checked out that plays going automatic. It's a really important concept because people often think they know what something is, but they don't really know it. They only know the depth they've been introduced to buy and then how they're relating that to their past experience. Which means they still only understand it through the lens of their past experience. So, you know, training, I think it's an evolving thing. Because we haven't really had great training in this country, people in the past were thinking about how you move the body and then people get pretty good and discerning like, you know, what should the Kinesiology of movement be across these exercises? Right? So, there's those things, but what you're talking about is what is the outcome (Yeah) of doing these things, which is a place and everyone will look at each other and shrug their shoulders and say, well, we didn't think that through. (Yeah) we just thought about this part of it. So, understanding the mental mechanisms that go into that and keep us from already being there has to be a prerequisite teaching. Right? (Yeah) Otherwise you don't have any framework or any map for what you're about to experience. (Right) You're just going to sleep walking right through that thinking you're doing new things, the same way that you were sleepwalking in life before getting to that point, I'm just doing things, right? There's no real way to measure against a greater outcome. So, this is where really all my work, especially the last five years, has been very results centric, and very nuanced, carving these things out, until we've been able to build us into a set of precise and clear-cut directions. So, not only understand the backstory of the human brain and body as they biologically exist as a template for the human being. Because that's important, because all the time we'll rethink we're doing these new things, we're not. To the point where we have a whole week on the podcast somewhere, what I call the fallacy of the rep base system down. It's not the movement of the bar up and down, folks. (that's not the rep) No. The rep is the thought that precipitates the movement because that's what you're repeating. And then within that set of mental repetitions, your belief and the thought that you are repeating is going to change the more you get squeezed. So, the fallacy of the rep base models that currently sits is that everything is built around the physicality of the repetition. (Yeah) Which is totally false. It's just not true. Right? I don't have a good, good analogy for it right now. But it's very much just on the surface level, to understand why those reps look a certain way and why some people who go farther than others you have to understand the thought that precipitates the rep. And then what is the genesis for that thought? It's based on our belief system. And the eyes are the filters that we see the world through, and the way that we react or respond to send stimulus. (Yeah) So, there's a whole mechanism in place that if we're just walking through this process, is in fact the governing process. That to achieve something different has a whole series of requirements you would have to follow to successfully navigate it. But if we don't understand it is totally hit or miss. So, just in the understanding alone, I believe that if someone is making the attempt to actually get stronger, to open that door, the way I just described it is now an entire thing that unfolds in your mind. If you're aware and you're choosing to be aware you can apply to anything and everything in your life because now you start to say hmm, if this doesn't actually have to do with the moving of the bar, and there's this great with a brain and bodies, but where else am I doing this?

5:00 Jon
Right. What another door can I kick open?

5:04 Ted
Yeah, because when you open the door of greater understanding all the things, we've been distracted by are downhill from that. So, you don't actually…

5:13 Jon
Actually, you don't even kick the doors open. You just walk up to them, like at the grocery store and they go flying open for you.

5:19 Ted
That's right. When you solve the greater problem, you have the greater understanding things begin to become easier. This is why for those who are sleepwalking through life, they're totally owned by a situation and circumstance. Someone can come up and say something to them. That can not only affect them for the entirety of that day, or that week or quote “ruin that relationship” It can begin to actually create that person's personality, which in turn then creates their complete outer reality moment by moment. So, there's a lot of implications to this that it would be impossible to even cover in one season. (Yeah) Much less one episode but just the idea of (all from one question) Yeah. If you can understand the greater mechanisms behind this instantly you should have gotten better in every place in your life. The challenge is releasing our attachments to the things that we believe to be true. Because the things that we believe to be true are the basis then of our total personal reality. It's what we believe. (Yeah) And if we anchor to those things, at the exclusion of new information, then we're not going to experience anything different. We're just going to be in the sea of situation and circumstance as they come to us from the outside. So, what I'm saying is that the beginnings of going to kindergarten when he started to understand these greater things, now you're actually in the school where you can begin to apply some solutions to these things, or we should, I should say, apply some curriculum to these now greater understanding of the mechanisms that are actually involved. And in doing so it can empower you in ways that right now, you wouldn't even have the ability to grasp and understand if you're sleepwalking. The same way if you're actually asleep. You can't be doing things in the physical world. (Yeah) That just, and you know, science bears this out. You know, I use this stat all the time. It was something to me that was really confusing when I first heard it, but 95% of the time, as adults in our waking life. We spend time replaying subconscious programs. And in other words, everything is bouncing off that so essentially, one could say most of the time (we are sleepwalking) we are absolutely sleepwalking through life. And when you begin to get the greater training, then you can start to understand what that really means. (Yep) But there's conditions to be able to understand that. You have to be able, by force of will and choice alone, to be able to face those access points and then choose differently. And the moment when we would normally choose the similar repetitive thing we've always done. And when you can choose differently now, you're navigating that differently. You're now in the “new”. That's where all potentials exist. New potentials do not exist by doing the same things over and over and over. But you will encounter new situations and circumstances and this is exactly why the majority of our populace has been hypnotized and seduced into thinking they're doing things that are new. When they're clearly patterned and cyclical. It's because they put all their power outside of them. Right? What are people thinking about me? What do I think about that person who's doing this wrong? Now, I'm judging this person. Now this happened to me and now what am I, you know. When you are self-governing, all those things go away, and you begin to get a clarity of purpose. That's true strength. (Yeah) So, the way that we teach this when I say we're, you know, empowering people to be leaders, not followers. It's really at the heart of your question, because it would be for anything and everything, whether someone's an athlete or not. Right, because they're going to receive that benefit of strength in every single facet of their life, by them always being in the place of coming from their inner strength to change and alter their outer world. Instead, of situations (not vice versa) Yeah. Instead of situations and circumstances from the outer world now determine who I am by how that changes my emotional state.

9:30 Jon
And once again, the Ted O’Neil program, a podcast about lifting weight is very little about lifting weights.

9:37 Ted
Yeah, as is all of that.
