EPISODE TRANSCRIPT

Introduction:
Welcome to The Ted O'Neill Program podcast about the building blocks of optimal human performance with Ted O’Neill and John Leon Guerrero.

0:24 Jon
Welcome to The Ted O'Neill Program. We are talking about lucid dreaming this week,

0:30 Ted
As a couple of novices.

0:33 Jon
As a couple of novices, we have a potential resource that we're going to explore. Should we share it with everybody? (Yeah) exploring the world of lucid dreaming by Stephen LaBerge.

0:46 Ted
Yeah, so he's considered one of the original experts in this field if I'm not mistaken, and his book seems pretty thorough. It's one of those that along with the book breath I've been enjoying on Audible sometimes while I'm actually sleeping, attempting to cultivate a lucid dream state. So, you Johnny, give us the title one more time

1:07 Jon
Exploring the world of lucid dreaming Stephen LaBerge.

1:11
Stephen Laberge Yeah, and there's quite a bit of information on the Internet like if you just Google lucid dreaming or maybe how to, you can probably, you know, zip around some YouTube videos and and get a feel for that, but I think I think the book is a great resource. (Okay) And something that, one of the things that's helpful is he has a training methodology on how to cultivate the lucid dream state. So he has a whole series of things that you do like where you keep like a dream log and you do these things and his acid rotation is really not as hard as you would think to be able to get into that space when you can do it, not just sometimes, but you can do it as intentionally as you'd be able to do anything else which is a pretty cool and pretty big promise to where if you could if you could reach this theoretical state of controlling your your dreams, in fact, and I think it's one of his his examples. I don't remember if it's a case study he's talking about. It's one of his actual examples. He kind of charts his progress, like when he first started doing this, like he was able to get into lucid state like 11 times in a month and then it was like, you know, 22 times out of 30. And then it was, you know, over time, it's like every single day, and then he recounts a story where he was able to stay in the lucid dream state, the world that he was in for a period of five years. And what he meant by that, not that he was asleep for five years in our time line, but he was actually in that state where he would have a day in his lucid dream. He would go to sleep as we normally would but within the lucid dream and he would wake back up within the dream. (Wow) Yeah, that's, that's like a Star Trek episode In fact, I think that's a Star Trek episode. Yeah. So that's, that's kind of a kind of a curious thing. So yeah, for those interested, check out the book. I think it's a great resource and at least then begins to point you in a specific direction with his particular training program as an expert. So that's something that I've just started engaging in. And we're going to see where this goes. I have to say I was really interested as we recorded yesterday's program, about your self experiment about going in to see if you can fix this thing and find the causation for this thing you have in your left leg and so for those who don't know Johnny has earned himself a rather endearing nickname. As a trainee at Diablo Barbell, has many over the years and his particular nickname is Chi floating heel because as a performance certain movements like squats or deadlifts, this is left he'll often will come so far off the ground. It seems to defy physics and those particular just particular movements. So I love that you brought that up as one of the things is going to be kind of your charter, in this lucid dreaming experiment if you can figure out what's going on there because it does present intermittently. But when it presents, I watch it in your gait. I see it in movement patterns. I see you making an attempt to change it. And it presents like it’s some mechanical deformity of some kind but then other times it's not there at all. So it's a grand curiosity. And if you can solve that, through this process, now we're talking about something that goes beyond just recreational right or beyond just the construct of mental training for the sake of strength in our mind, which is obviously extremely important in and of itself. But if we're talking about being able to create a result, that then follows us into the physical and if going farther, if the genesis of that result comes from finding maybe some kind of mental or emotional block. Now, I believe we can add further methodically to our emotional sobriety curriculum, or even the Paraphysical training model to where if we're using this (Yeah) as a skill set. If this becomes part of someone's skill set, then that would seem to enrich both of those curricula that right now exist already in the space of the physical, mental and emotional. So at the risk of sounding like we need to be wearing tinfoil hats right now. I think that we've opened up with that least opened up one door of potential and really, you know, that's, that's what I like getting into on this show. And that's the whole reason that we have things like the emotional sobriety curriculum and Paraphysical training and, and we've had the level of results that we've had at Lifted Academy through, you know, our Recomp program where our exercise therapy program where we have these anomalous things happening with great regularity, because we're constantly in the exploration of how the four planes of the human experience overlap and where the interplay is there between the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, because in my mind as you begin to understand how this works, you realize that we are the, the integration of all those four planes of experience. And so you can be great at something in the physical but if you're too myopic, you might mentally be a mess or emotionally be a total wreck, or vice versa. You might have it together mentally, but maybe you don't do anything for your body. So your body is not functioning optimally. So I think, really to experience the highest levels of fulfillment and the highest quality of life. We need to have a high level demonstration. Notice I didn't say balance, set a high level demonstration physically, mentally emotionally, spiritually, to be living at our peak potential. And to me that's, that's what's that's where my interest is. If someone else disagrees with me that's fine too. But the reason that we do all of this work is in the pursuit of that very goal of the high level demonstration.

7:10 Jon
All it really comes down to is that we're exploring the use of different tools. And this could be just like in the gym, we use bands, we use chains, we use boards, to do different things to our form and to accentuate components of lifts that we want to improve and isolate. And this is a place where we can isolate and create improvement that may be harder to access otherwise.

7:38 Ted
You know, now we're kind of touching on exactly why I wanted to make this season, season eight this way, where we introduce these new concepts we kind of go back into some traditional non traditional Lifted Academy programming for the next couple of weeks. And then we continue to revisit our progress in the breathwork and our progress in the lucid dreaming, because we might look back on this a year from now and these might be Cornerstone programs of Lifted Academy and we're addressing this right now completely from the standpoint of neophytes and novices, where we're, we're asking the bigger questions and we don't have any answers. And so to me, that's, that's the fun part about putting this out there. Just in a completely exposed way to where it's like, yeah, we have no idea what we're talking about right now. I hope that our practice makes us experts in a relatively short period of time, such that if if these techniques are as viable as I think, then they might end up touching many more people and improving the lives of people right now that currently as we're saying this, have no idea that we even exist.
