Hey everybody. Today's episode is titled The Importance of Community. And it was recommended by Howard Fate, who continually refuses to go down quietly. In fact, he refuses to go down at all. He triumphantly said, I love the support of this powerful community, bettering the world individually and with the support of each other. Howard is a joy to train with, he gives as good as he gets. And he's one of my very favorite people. Here is today's episode about The Importance of Community.

Welcome to the Ted O'Neill program. Today we're going to talk about the concept of community. I'm really charged about this because we just celebrated the 20th anniversary of Diablo Barbell and the community came together. It was a lot of fun.

I was so pleased to see everyone here contributing and that really meant a lot to me to have a large influx of people coming in and spending their day helping to clean and take part in making Diablo awesome. So, you know, that's one element of community where everyone can get together, you know, for a common cause at an event. But to me what's even more important and the thing that I even want to continue to cultivate more within our own culture here is how we participate and interact as community because I think we traditionally think of community elements as get togethers, which is totally appropriate and more than okay, I mean, that's a fun thing to do. But for me, I think what I really want to see more of as people, because we have, you know, all different time slots throughout the day and so we don't always cross paths with everyone. And everyone here has and I say this for you who's listening I mean, you. Everyone here has a valuable story. And is really part of this thing and everyone here has something to share with the rest of the community that's going to impact someone on their journey, and whether that's, you know, on these Recomp challenges that we do, where people post the challenges that they overcame, or they post their favorite nutrition piece or the favorite recipe or if that's someone sharing their experience on their, you know, whatever personal records they're setting or with injuries they've overcome. Every single person here has an amazing story behind them and are contributing in their own way, moment by moment. And, you know, that's more of the story that I want to get out internally. Because I think oftentimes, we kind of wait and we hesitate about everything. No one wants to hear what I've got to say. And then we lose that moment that that person's unique journey could impact someone else. And to me, that's the element that binds us in community because we're all on this mission. And it's no secret that we push hard here all the time. It's like there's no letup and what's so cool about this is we've never had a retention rate like this. It's like no one's leaving, no matter how hard we push on this experiment we throw out the deeper dives that we go with, you know, not scaring anybody away. and it's pretty cool because we're way outside the box, man. You know, we're not sticking to oh, here's some new exercises that we can do that are going to make you look better for your Instagram portfolio. This is you know; we're doing big live stuff. And we're approaching a way that really requires a lot of work for people. So, I really appreciate everyone's continued engagement and enthusiasm on those big concepts. You know, because at the end of all of it, we still look like a gym. But our path is very different. You know, this is one of the elements that we're using as a means to not only improve our lives in all different ways, but to improve our interpretation of what consciousness is even as well, you know, why are we here in general, and it goes beyond just doing things.

Improve it, elongate it, enhance it, everything's more meaningful the whole time. It's a state of being. So, I think the takeaway here is for those of us in the community, you know, I know that we all can look at somebody's story as having inspired us at some point, even for the littlest thing, you know, just to finish the sprint with the Prowler. You know, there's somebody there. I'm trying my best to kill Howard. Every training day he refuses, he refuses he freezes to die. So, every morning that I see him, I think, Okay, let's see how much we can do. And if he's waiting on me, I don't want him waiting on me. And so that is an inspiration to me moment to moment. And there are many of those. You know, I can't let Claire beat me all the way across with the Prowler. They're all the same. You know, we all do it.

So, that's the makings of a great training group. And you have people trying to bring each other up, you know, for the reasons of bringing each other up. And I've had people in the past that didn't take care for the obvious reasons where they wanted to win by someone else not doing well. And that's not what we're talking about. So, that's the great part about the community right now is that everyone is participating in everyone else's success. And I would love to see a little bit more cross talk about that. So, we have some avenues for that, you know, we have the Facebook workshop page and the nutrition pages. So, I really want to encourage everyone to, you know, think about it if everyone made a post every single day. And you know, we often talk about how to use social media in a more effective way. And here's the pro tip. It's not scrolling on nonsense stuff, hour after hour, right? It's looking at only the things, maybe groups that provide a level of engagement for you that is productive, that has traction toward your stated goals, ideals and objectives.

I like to tip my hat to Gary. He puts up some great posts.
6:30 Ted
Yes. And this is exactly what I mean. So, you know, here's someone who's a relative newcomer who is more and more making an impact with his time here, because he can now reach other members who don't get to interact with them on a regular basis, and they get to see his continued progress and his insights and all his valuable communication. That's exactly what I mean. If everyone were to participate at that level, then this thing continues to spiral up and it continues to gain more energy and enthusiasm and momentum.
7:04 Jon
Yeah. So, if you think you don't have a story that's going to inspire somebody. Well, I'll challenge you to that. Put it out there.
7:11 Ted
I know every single one of you know, I'm telling you, you do
7:14 Jon
Let's watch who you inspire.
