This is the Ted O'Neill program. There's so much information in science and philosophy, physical training, performance optimization, nutrition, human experience with Ted O'Neill and Jon Leon Guerrero.

Are you aware of when you get out of contact because you said before, sometimes you'll look at the heel cam footage, and you'll say, Man, those ones felt good? Are you aware at the moment yet?
0:33 Jon
Most of the time, I am.
0:34 Ted
Most of the time. okay. So, then in being aware of that, tell me why you replicate that way?
0:41 Jon
Okay. The immediate answer that I came up with, which sounds a lot a lot like an excuse. (Is it a yeah, but...) the immediate answer is because a correction in geometry allows for a lift to be easier. (Yeah. Right) So in that instance, (sometimes) I recognize that what I'm trying to do is create a result the wrong way. Because I'm striving to just get the weight up, (just get it done), as opposed (survive the moment) surviving the moment as opposed to in train for improvement.
1:15 Ted
Yes. Okay. So, you're actually aware of that? (I am) in those moments?
1:19 Jon
I am typically aware of it. (Okay, that's good. So…) Sometimes I catch myself going, I'm not paying attention. (Yeah. Good) And when I do that, I often end up with a better following rep.
1:32 Ted
Good. Okay. Now, what causes you to not pay attention?
1:36 Jon
Just a macrocosm of trying to survive the moment
1:40 Ted
Got it. Okay. So, what's happening for you then is your chemistry is changing as you get squeezed. So, we've talked about this and we're using this example again, as a universal example for anyone and everyone. (Yeah) Because at Lifted Academy we have a formula that starts with concept moves to understanding for some, some people can hear a new concept and say, No, that's not for me, and that's okay. Then you get to stay with what you believe to be true. But if you hear something new and you understand it, you've now graduated from receiving a new concept into understanding. So, now it's in your head. A lot of people get stuck here. And this is why I say information. More times than not is worthless, (right) It's in fact worth less than not knowing it. (Yeah) Because as you receive the information, if you don't then take the next step and go to embodiment. And then the next step is to go to a demonstration. If you stay in the space only of understanding it's a non-practiced mental mechanism.
2:46 Jon
Worse yet, we can stay in that space of understanding and, and throw the lens on it that allows for us to make excuses.
2:54 Ted
It allows us to make excuses. It allows us to judge other people for the very same thing. Because now we've armed that deficiency with training. This is a huge concept because if you are deficient in your belief somewhere in other words, you're saying I'm deficient in this and so you're taking in new information as a means of overcoming said challenge. If you don't put action to it, what you're really doing, if the training is potent, is you're growing that deficiency, by arming it with the how and the why of why it exists, which means it now knows how to survive even greater. (Yeah) And you're putting training to that. So, let's just say that you choose to embody it because what you're describing is your embodiment in some moments. In other words, you're now making an attempt. You've gone from a concept that you understood, and you're now in the stage of embodiment. In other words, you're making active attempts at the moment to create change. And yet the focus sometimes waiver is based on the circumstance of your chemistry changing when you feel squeezed. (Yeah) Or we just check out and so we're losing focus. So, that's just the proverbial layer of the onion that you're getting stuck on in this big formula of concept to understanding to embodiment to demonstration. Everyone is going to get stuck somewhere. So that outline, right concept, understanding, embodiment, demonstration gives you a way to see where you are on the map. Because that can be helpful, much the same way of watching the heel cam footage.
4:33 Jon
Yeah. So, when I was watching the heel cam footage, I can think, Okay, well, I understand the concept. (Yeah) And then if we break down what, where did I go wrong? You know, was it that rep. Did I stink up that rep or did I just try to survive the set? (Right) By let me just pound out these last three no matter how it happens. (Yeah) And then I can identify (Yes) where to make the correction.
4:55 Ted
So, that simply means that for you, your belief system, or the concept of just getting through it. Trump's idea of the demonstration of the optimal rep. So, on something that's a complex series of events, we can graduate from concept to understanding to embodiment in one area and one facet of that, (yeah) while on the other we might still get stuck at concept (Yeah) or understanding. (Yeah) This is what you know. So, this, this works in layers. And what's happening is we've identified for you the motivation to just get through it. Even though one of the core teachings we haven't Lifted Academy centers around this concept of what is optimal and why we would even engage that versus the just doing of things. (Yeah) So much so that we can mathematically identify the difference in outcomes. So, for you, then I would simply slow down and take a look at what your motivations and drivers are. How attached are you to the concept of getting better at these particular things that require that?
6:09 Jon
Yeah, as opposed to how attached I am to getting it over with and feeling some sense of accomplishment that's misplaced. (Right) Because I also heard you last week, tell somebody who missed a lift that you felt a lot better about the success of that missed lift (Yes) than you would have if they had just grounded out the wrong way and pushed it up.
6:35 Ted
Well, here's why. So, again, it goes back to what are we demonstrating? And that's indicative of our practice. (Yeah) If you, you know, and we have a whole module and a whole discipline in the Paraphysical training model built around what we call the 90/10. And the 90/10 is the observance where 90% of our time we're really just building up to those moments in time that can change us through engaging the new. So, if you fall apart on the last rep of a set, so you're benching and your feet are dancing around and you're wiggling about and your butts coming off the bench and everyone's cheering and say, Hey, you did a good job. Well, what you just affirmed, is when I get squeezed at my highest level, if I panic, then that's going to get me through. (Yeah) And so, what you're really training to get better at in that moment is panic, (Is the panic. Yeah) Because one, one, you're totally checked out. And two, you can't reverse engineer that. In a way that's going to lead to success. (right) Because all of that panic is evident. It's not something that is methodic that you can utilize to your benefit until you have it under control. (Yeah, therefore you've not embodied) Right. So, it's much better for someone to stay totally locked in to their process. They're totally locked into the elements of technique, and mastery of the movement and missed because one that tells you where you're really missing, and why. Both physically, mentally, and emotionally. And if you stay locked in at the expense of the panic, you are now taking her energy off panic and pointing it directly north toward mastery or higher outcomes. This is the whole of it. If we look at what we're training moment by moment, this is why we can have a really good miss and a bad make. Because it's now indicative of what our training is going to yield. And if the physical activity of training can just be a metaphor for other challenges in your life the same way that we're talking about your heel coming up off the ground being a metaphor for anything else anyone is experiencing. Then it would seem to be a system of best practices to stay totally mentally engaged in your process and know exactly what optimal looks like. Because the more energy and attention and intention you put into those small moments in time, the more intentional moments you create, more intentional events you create in your life, which is demonstration. So, demonstration is the actualization of practice. It's the physical representation. It's the end result. (Yeah) That's what we're striving for every single time. We engage in training, and this is why training at Diablo Barbell and Lifted Academy is so specific because you can take someone who's trained. In fact, I just had someone who had trained for 20 years. They made it about a week and a half at Diablo. They recognized that what we were doing was the way to do it. Conclusively. They had said that they had learned more in what we could have done the prior 20 years, but didn't say that they didn't have what it takes to continue on. (Wow) I said Sure you do. You just got to do it one day at a time but for them that was too high of a hurdle. So, this is in part the danger of repetitively affirming in the negative or in the state of lack. (Yeah) We begin to believe it so much so (yep) that would even now introduced to a set of keys that will take you out of your self-imposed cage (you even recognize) that you can recognize and say if I take those keys from you, I can open this cage I've made for myself and be free. People won't do it. (Wow) So, this is what all of the training that we do, this is where they all sync up. Whether it's in the physical, the mental, the emotional, they're all means of self-empowerment, through knowing what's really happening moment by moment and then giving you the keys to walk into a completely different and new reality.
