EPISODE TRANSCRIPT

Jon:
As is predictable, because of the curriculum that we experience in the gym, Diablo Barbell, we are going to talk about the body.

0:28 Ted:
That's part of it.

0:28 Jon:
Yeah, it is part of it. But it is the quantifiable part.

0:32 Jon:
And the part that we often discuss is how our measure of the most advanced forms of achievement that we can muster are the simplest human tasks. There's something there, pick it up. That is the simplest human task, but requires at the level that we execute it, the most advanced mastery of all of the tools that we are given. So, with the body, we're able to see very clearly, through its achievement, through how much weight we can lift in the lifts that we perform, what we're doing correctly or incorrectly. And so, let's discuss how we use the body as the tool and how it is, well, if it is the embodiment.

1:24 Ted:
Yeah, so one of the things that I often say is, I believe our physical bodies are the representation of our collective thoughts, beliefs, paradigms, mental constructs, feelings, etc. And that's the distillation of all of that, and then we have ourselves in the physical form. So, using the body as a tool than to access higher places in consciousness. Our mental self, or emotional state, our energetic state, is one of the things that we do in training.

1:59 Jon:
Now, I don't know that most people consider that when they take up a training regimen at any level, but I think the highest performers might do that instinctively, or innately. And of course, you have fields like sports psychology, where there's this effort to get into the head of the athlete, for example, and I've not really seen, in my opinion, much come out of that, that I thought was really earth shaking.

2:29 Ted:
I have a belief about that. And that's because having the thought is one thing. To be able to change your mind is one thing, but what I've observed, both as a strength coach, and then in the development of the ParaPhysical Training Model, it's not just the thought, it's the emotional state. Because the emotional state is the change of your internal biochemistry.

So, for example, you can have a really clear thought on what you want to execute in any given moment. And the moment you begin to get squeezed, your chemistry is going to change and it's no longer a function of cognition, the things we just agreed to three or four seconds before you started that set, or whatever that event was, that's going to be your your big challenge, all of a sudden goes out the window.

And that was something that was one of the first things that jumped out to me, as I began to go a little bit deeper into a new way of looking at training orthotics.

3:21 Ted
Is what's happening if it's if we just agreed upon that. And then it changes, then it's not a function of psychology. So, it goes a little bit beyond. So, there's this inner relation between the brain and the body, that we can say that the brain and the body can conspire together to create an emotional state.

3:38 Jon:
Yeah, well, let me share a notion with you and then see if we can dial it in from that standpoint, and that is, that motive is the flaw. And what I mean by that is sports psychology has the objective built in, that somebody wants to win.

3:55
And that, in the truly special athletes, Kobe Bryant comes to mind. His desire was not simply to win. His desire was an internal achievement that was different from everybody else's. That's what everybody who competed against him tends to say about him was it he was wired differently. He didn't just want to beat you. This was their perception was that he didn't just want to beat you. He wanted to truly dominate you completely. And I think that that's not necessarily an accurate representation. Of course, we can't speak for him. But if I can take his motive and try to translate it in a way that matters to this discussion, it was that his motive was not to score more points than his competitor. His motive was to somehow vanquish an opponent in a way that meant something to him that didn't have to do with the scoreboard necessarily. He wanted to make it so that he so thoroughly achieved what he was after that the opponent was almost meaningless.

5:05 Ted:
So then the outcome would be a foregone conclusion.

5:07 Jon:
Right, and that's a different mindset.

5:10 Ted:
Yeah, so you said wired differently. And that's such a key component. Because if you're operating within the norm, then you could look at any batch of data and draw conclusions from it. And you have things like standard deviations. And so if you're operating within the normal scope, there's going to be your high achievers. But if you're wired differently, then that's something else entirely. So that's something that I would say that could be one of our first objectives.

5:36 Ted:
By understanding the owner's manual of the human body to a different level, it gives you the ability to rewire yourself completely.

5:46
And if you can rewire yourself completely, then your entire set of expectations can change. Because now you're no longer doing the same thing that everyone else is doing. So what's happening outside of you no longer matters compared to what's happening inside of you.

6:03
And when you begin to recognize and realize that your internal state, in fact, completely governs your external reality, then that's how we can say someone would be wired differently.

6:15 Ted:
And that's a very achievable goal that can be reverse engineered. And that first step is understanding these very concepts, that the overwhelming majority of the time, we're on autopilot, whether we want to believe that or not, that's the truth. And there are some little things that you can do. Here's a fun one. For everyone listening who doesn't maybe Believe me, I think Ted's just talking about something he read somewhere. But try this next time you get to a red light. And that thing turns green, sit there for an extra three or four seconds and watch what happens. Especially...

6:48 Jon:
Allow the chaos to ensue.

6:49 Ted:
Right? You're going to have someone who has a massive over reaction. And I kind of equate that to, you know, the thing is, when you're running a program and your mind, I'm going from A to B, and nothing can distract me from getting there, something inconvenient comes up, you now essentially have to return to the present moment and a body full of chemicals of fear and anxiety and frustration and disappointment and all these things. That when people are in a brainwave state that maybe would be called high beta brainwave. That matches those chemical states of the body. If you get inconvenienced on your journey from A to B, then you're all of a sudden going to wake up in a body full of these chemicals. It's almost like waking up from a nightmare that you had, it feels really real. Or maybe you're even upset with the person that was in your dream. It's a dream. It's a little bit like that. So you see someone all of a sudden, you know, honking their horn and flipping you off and maybe threatening you. And it's this massive overreaction. That's really just cost them two or three extra seconds.

7:50
So where does that come from? Right. So, you know, in recognition that this is where we spend the overwhelming majority of our time if we can begin to deconstruct that by first realizing there's another reality that can be accessed. And that can be one of your choosing by rewriting all of your original subconscious programs. Then you can, as you mentioned, with Kobe Bryant, you can be wired completely different, and then all of a sudden, your entire view on reality is different because you recognize you're controlling and dictating your own reality.
